In 2016, with Petit returning from double-headlining with blues titan Walter Trout on the November 2015 ‘I’m Back’ Tour, there’s no mistaking a man who means every line, every lick, every fleck of spittle and drop of sweat. “I want to see the blues become mainstream,” he says. “I want to see it become common currency in the discourse of modern popular culture. I want to see it become blues city…”
SDP (famously described by Classic Rock magazine as “occupying a stunning middle ground between the fire of Freddie King, the instinct of Jimmy Page and the soul of Eric Clapton”) and Trout first met while Petit was recording and hanging out with legendary Howlin’ Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin. Whilst Sumlin was at the end of his life, Trout was trying to save his own and Petit was having the time of his - jamming with these two guitar greats.
Walter Trout’s ‘I’m Back’ tour saw his return to live touring after his life-threatening liver disease and subsequent liver transplant and it was backstage at last summer’s Leadbelly Fest at The Royal Albert Hall that Walter asked Stephen (whose sell-out tours with Rolling Stone Mick Taylor and headline performances at Glastonbury, High Voltage and blues festivals at Skegness and Colne had already impressed many) to join him on the UK tour and SDP readily agreed.
Petit, with two recent critically-acclaimed hits ‘Cracking The Code’, featuring Hubert Sumlin’s last performances, and ‘Live At High Voltage’ both continuing to shift in large numbers, will again be joined onstage by Pretty Things drummer Jack Greenwood but will also be introducing fast rising and much-tipped bass player Sophie Lord whose mentor in the dark art of plank spanking is none other than Wilko Johnson’s Blockhead Norman Watt-Roy. The band’s set will feature some of the songs featured on the vinyl-only, Classic Rock magazine 10 star-reviewed ‘Live At High Voltage’ described as "It's Live At Leeds, Dr Feelgood and 66 Blues Breakers in one hit".
